FUN AT PARTIES
Reviews:
'The frenetic energy of Berlin’s nightlife is palpable from the outset, captured through a fast-paced, multi-role performance by the four actors. The show’s title is, in a way, a masterstroke of irony; the “fun” on display is less about carefree joy and more about a drug-hazed denial of reality.
***** from Edinburgh Reviews
'The all-female cast brings depth and nuance to a world often flattened into cliché, portraying friendship, vulnerability, and resilience with raw honesty. This is not just a celebration of club culture—it’s a reckoning with its costs and its legacy.'
**** from Counter Culture UK
'Visually and tonally, the piece sizzles. You sense the texture of throbbing lights, sweaty beats and late‑night glamour. The immersive atmosphere alone feels worth the ticket.'
**** from Ed Fest Reviews
FUN AT PARTIES is a fast-moving, electric new play which crashes headfirst into Berlin’s legendary nightlife and the outsiders who keep it running. Set against the house and techno beats of the city’s famed club scene, this production explores a city whose international inhabitants live in drug-hazed denial of reality and consequence.
A new arrival to Berlin tries to find their place in a new world that’s euphoric, addictive, and forever transient. Through a kaleidoscopic series of scenes, the play explores questions of belonging, burnout, migration, and identity in a city famous for being everyone’s playground - until the lights come up.
Berlin Open Theatre is an English-language ensemble based in Berlin, Germany, and this production features an all-female cast from Germany, Ireland, the United States, Serbia, and the United Kingdom.
